The rubber and metal postmarks of silwad
The envelope shown , was sent by registered mail from the post office of Al Bireh carrying the rubber pmk Al Bireh -1- . on 16.Mar..1996 . .
The envelope reached Silwad and stamped w the rubber postmark Silwad -1- on 19.Mar.96 .
When it became clear that the recipient is unknown , the envelope was given a "farewell” postmark by the metal postmark of Silwad on 24.Mar.1996 on FRONT of the cover , and returned to sender (in Jericho ) .
This envelope presents the period in which the metal postmarks begun to be distributed in the West Bank post offices . Contrary to the case in Gaza Strip , both types continued to be used simultaneously , in coming years .
